    How to Start/Close a Game or Software Application

    Description:

    Instructions for starting or closing a game or software application on the Nintendo Switch console.

    Complete These Steps:

    To Start a Game or Software Application
    1. Insert a game card in the game card slot on the Nintendo Switch console, or download a game or software application from the Nintendo eShop.
    2. While on the HOME Menu select the icon for the game or software application that you wish to use, then select "Start."
      • If prompted, select a user.

    To Close a Game or Software Application.
    1. While in a game or software application, press the HOME Button to suspend the game and display the HOME Menu.
    2. With the game or software application highlighted on the home menu, press the X button.
      • This option is only available for software you are currently playing. This will be indicated by a "Playing" icon hovering over the game application.
    3. Select "Close" when asked if you would like to close the software you are currently using.

    Important:

    Software that requires saving should be saved before closing it. Otherwise any unsaved progress will be lost.
