How to download software for Wii U

You will need:

  • A Wii U console
  • A broadband internet connection. Visit our Support section for help connecting Wii U to the internet.
  • A user account linked to a Nintendo Network ID. To link a Nintendo Network ID, open User Settings by tapping your Mii character in the top-left corner of the Wii U Menu, then select “Link a Nintendo Network ID”.
  • Depending on the service, you may also require an additional account and/or subscription. Please visit the service provider's website for more information.


1. Ensure your Wii U is connected to the internet, then sign in to a user account that has a linked Nintendo Network ID.


2. Open Nintendo eShop by touching the orange Nintendo eShop icon, then search for the software's name via the search box in the top-right corner.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the software.

4. Once the software has installed, start it from the Wii U Menu, then follow the on-screen instructions to get started!
