How to Update Splatoon 2

Description:

Instructions on installing the update for Splatoon 2.

On 22 April 2020 a new software update for Splatoon 2 will become available for download. Please take a moment to download and install this update while your Nintendo Switch console is connected to the internet.

Additional Information:

  • This update must be applied in order to use the game’s online features.
  • Save data will still be available for use after downloading the update.
  • If the console is connected to the internet, the update will download and install automatically.
  • Updating to the latest version will disable wireless matchmaking for local multiplayer with players using an earlier version.

Complete These Steps:

  1. Connect the Nintendo Switch console to the internet.
  2. Return to the HOME Menu and launch the game.
  3. The update will be downloaded and installed automatically.
  4. Once the update is installed, the newest version number will be displayed on the title screen.

    • Baller
    • Extended the time you have to hold down the ZR Button to trigger this by roughly 16/60 of a second.
    • When you have a weapon equipped that has a fast walking speed when not firing or a fast squid-form swimming speed, increased acceleration on the ground to allow you to move more quickly.
    • This applies to the following weapons that can use a Baller.
      • Aerospray RG
      • Luna Blaster
      • Inkbrush Nouveau
      • Undercover Sorella Brella
    • When you have a weapon equipped that has a fast walking speed when not firing or a fast squid-form swimming speed, reduced maximum speed by roughly 14%.
    • This applies to the following weapons that can use a Baller.
      • Custom Explosher
    • Bubble Blower
    • Extended the time until a bubble pops naturally by roughly 2 seconds.
    • Reduced the size of the first and second bubbles.
    • The first bubble is the smallest, the second is slightly larger, and the third bubble onward will be the same size as before.
    • The area over which damage is dealt and the area which is inked by an exploding bubble depends on the size of the bubble.
  • Points required for using specials have been changed for certain main weapons.

The changes in this update are designed to lower the abilities of a portion of all weapons and specials that, based on analysis of statistical data, had obtained an advantage in results.

Our intention is that this will entice players to explore these weapons, while retaining their individual strengths of the weapons in scenarios where they are advantageous.

We reference various sorts of statistical data for these adjustments, but in particular for those which lower the abilities of certain weapons, we've focused on data from matches between players of high Rank.

We will issue future updates after looking carefully at changes resulting from this update, as well as the overall state of statistical data over the long term.

Other Changes

  • Changed the unlock conditions for Tracks #20 through #26 in Squid Beatz 2 so that anyone can play them.
  • Extended the time limit to play your next game after you repeatedly disconnect within a short period of time.
    • This change will affect only those with frequent disconnects, less than 1% of all active players worldwide.
    • The more frequent your disconnects over a short period of time, the longer the time limit to play your next game will be.
  • When you download the latest update data, you will no longer be able to connect with players in The Shoal who have older update data.

  • Downloading the latest update will prevent matching with players at the Shoal that are using previous update data.

    With this update we have made adjustments to the abilities of certain weapons to effectively hold the line of battle or to ink turf from afar. However, we have limited these adjustments in such a way that they should not affect weapon selection for players experienced with using these weapons.

    Following this update, we plan to consider similar adjustments for many other weapons going forward. Additionally, we will continue to watch for and analyse weapons that appear to have few or no drawbacks, and that also perform well against all other weapons.

    We plan to distribute the next update in late April 2020.

  • Changes to Multiplayer
    • Fixed an issue causing players to mistakenly move forward while in mid-air during the first swing of an Ultra Stamp when pressing and holding ZR to swing the stamp repeatedly.
    • Fixed an issue allowing players to jump further than intended when jumping at a specific time while using the Ultra Stamp.
      • These changes fix the issue of players being able to enter areas of certain stages that should have been restricted for them.
    • Fixed an issue causing players with poor internet connections to not appear in the appropriate location on the screens of other players when using certain special weapons at a specific time.
    • Fixed an issue in Starfish Mainstage allowing players to gain access to the opponents' base via a specific grate when jumping while pressing and holding ZR to ink continuously with the Inkbrush or Octobrush.
    • Fixed an issue in Sturgeon Shipyard allowing players to gain access to the opponents' base via a specific grate when jumping while pressing and holding ZR to ink continuously with the Inkbrush or Octobrush.
    • Fixed an issue in Manta Maria allowing players to gain access to the opponents' base via a specific grate when jumping while pressing and holding ZR to ink continuously with the Inkbrush or Octobrush.
    • Fixed an issue in Shellendorf Institute causing players to clip into the stage terrain when moving near a certain wall.
    • Fixed an issue in Shellendorf Institute occurring in Rainmaker allowing players to clip into a specific piece of stage terrain.
    • Fixed an issue in Camp Triggerfish that had previously allowed players to gain access to an Inkrail from an unintended direction by slightly adjusting the rail’s position.
  • Other Changes
    • Play may now be limited for players if they experience frequent connection errors while waiting for remaining players to arrive after joining a Ranked Battle match lobby.

Ver. 5.0.0

  • Changes to Private Battle
    • Turf War (Splatfest) has been added to the modes available in Private Battle.
    • Selecting Turf War (Splatfest) will result in the following changes:
      • Stage music and animations will be those used during a Splatfest.
      • The 24 Shifty Station stages used in previous Splatfests will be available to select as multiplayer stages.
      • Team ink colors can be selected from among the color combinations used in all previous Splatfests.
  • Changes to Gear
    • Splatfest Tee Replica has been added as new gear.
      • After applying the update you can acquire this gear by pressing A in front of the cardboard box that appears in Inkopolis Square.
      • The Splatfest Tee Replica differs from standard gear in the following ways:
        • As with the Splatfest Tee, the Splatfest Tee Replica’s primary gear ability is Ability Doubler.
        • Its appearance changes to match the ink color of the player’s team.
        • While playing in Turf War (Splatfest) in Private Battle, if any player has this gear equipped, it will cause their team’s Splatfest Team Name to appear as the match is beginning.
  • Changes to Multiplayer
    • Adjusted the position of clams that appear during a match of Clam Blitz for all stages.
    • Stage terrain and object placement for the following stages has been changed.

    • Fixed an issue in Arowana Mall occurring during Tower Control and Rainmaker modes allowing players to gain access to the opponent’s base via a specific Ink Rail.
    • Fixed an issue in Goby Arena allowing a player who super jumped to an ally pressed up against a specific piece of stage terrain to clip inside it and remain there.
    • Fixed an issue in Piranha Pit causing player movement to be held up slightly when walking off a specific conveyor belt.
    • Fixed an issue in Piranha Pit occurring in Rainmaker mode allowing players to gain access to the opponent’s base via a specific Ink Rail.
    • Fixed an issue in Wahoo World allowing players to clip inside a specific piece of stage terrain.
    • Fixed an issue in Wahoo World making a specific wall impossible to climb smoothly depending on the way it had been inked.
    • Fixed an issue in the Shifty Station stage, The Maze Dasher, where a portion of stage terrain differed from the version of the stage originally released previously as part of a Splatfest.
