Controller is Not Responding or is Responding Incorrectly [Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System]

Description:

  • The Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System Controller is not responding or responds incorrectly when trying to navigate the HOME Menu or when trying to play a game.
  • The characters move on their own.

Additional Information:

  • The model number for the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System Controller is CLV-202.
  • Controller port no.1 on the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System console is the one on the left side, while port no. 2 is the one on the right side.

What to Do:

  1. Verify that you are using a compatible controller.
    • If you are using an accessory that is not supported for this console, replacing it with a compatible controller may resolve the issue.
  2. If a compatible controller is not responding while being plugged into port no. 2, ensure that the game is compatible with 2-player options.
    • Important:
      • In order to navigate the HOME Menu, the controller must be plugged into port no. 1.
      • Port no. 2 can be used only for a second player while in 2-player games.
  3. If the issue persists, slide the POWER Switch OFF.
  4. Unplug the controller by pressing the tabs on the connector that goes into the console.
  5. Check the controller’s cord for any signs of physical damage; i.e. frayed cable, nicks, kinks, etc.
    • If any damage is present, the controller will need to be replaced.
  6. Check the serial number on the bottom of the console.

What is the serial number prefix for your console?

  1. Plug the USB cable into the back of the console and an official Nintendo AC adapter (model No. CLV-003) into a wall outlet or a device with a USB-compatible 5V/1A (5W) output.
    • We have found that there may be issues that can be caused by using an underpowered AC adapter or power source; the power LED may be lit, but the controller may not respond correctly.
    • If you are powering up the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System console using an after-market AC adapter, a TV, or other device, make sure the USB-compatible output is 5V/1A (5W).
  2. Plug the original HDMI cable that came in the box into the back of the console and then into an HDMI port on the TV or monitor.
    • Ensure the HDMI connectors are pushed in all the way and are not loose.
    • If you have verified that the original HDMI cable works on your console, and you later want to use a different cable, ensure it does not exceed 10 feet (3 metres) in length.
  3. Plug one of the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System Controllers into port no. 1 on the front of the console and power it on. Then try navigating the HOME Menu or try starting a game.
    • If a controller button is not responding with a specific game, consult the online game manuals and verify that the intended button is compatible with that game.
    • If the controller is not responding altogether or is responding incorrectly, test the second controller that came with the console. Ensure it is plugged into port no. 1.
  4. If an incorrect response is occurring with both controllers, try connecting the AC adapter into a different wall outlet.

Situation Not Resolved:

  • If the second controller works correctly with the console, then the non-working controller will need to be replaced.
  • If neither controller is responding correctly, even after plugging the original AC adapter into a different wall outlet, then the console will need to be repaired.

Important:

You have a console that was intended to be sold in another region.

  • We have found that these issues can be caused by using an underpowered AC adapter or power source; the console may power up, but the controller(s) may not respond correctly.
  1. You can try using a different AC adapter or USB-compatible output that is rated as 5V/1A (5W).
  2. If you haven't done so already, we strongly recommend testing the console with a different TV or monitor.
