What is a child account?

Applies to: Nintendo Account

Previously, Nintendo Accounts were only available to users aged 13 and older. With the introduction of child accounts, they can now be created for children of any age. To create an account for a child, a parent or guardian must have a Nintendo Account.

Having a Nintendo Account allows the user to access various services through My Nintendo, receive various discount offers, purchase download versions of software from the official Nintendo website where available, and enjoy other benefits. For more details about services you can use with a Nintendo Account, please see “What is a Nintendo Account?”

For information on how to create a child account, please see "How can I create a child account?"

Purchasing software through the official Nintendo website requires a linked Nintendo Network ID. Parental controls can be set for the Nintendo Network ID in order to restrict purchases.
