Software update: February 4th 2016

A software update is now available that makes several adjustments to enhance the overall experience.

The software version after this update will be 1.1.4, as shown in the bottom-right corner of the game's title screen.

Update contents

  • Adds ability to purchase new add-on content. Please visit the official Super Smash Bros. website for more information about purchasable add-on content.
  • Adjusts the game balance
  • Introduces additional enhancements to improve the user’s experience and enjoyment

Please note: after updating to version 1.1.4, you will not be able to play local matches with players using version 1.1.3 or below. In addition, you will be unable to play replays created in version 1.1.3 or below. This update is also required in order to access online features of the software.

Please note: this software update requires up to 3,600 available blocks (approximately 450 MB) on your system's SD card or microSD card. Our Support section contains information about compatibility-checked microSD cards for New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL, and compatibility-checked SD cards for Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 2DS and Nintendo 3DS XL.

Important: You will be able to continue using your saved game data.

The update data will be saved on the SD card inserted in your Nintendo 3DS system. If there is insufficient free space on the SD card, the update will not be applied successfully. You can check how much free space there is on your SD card by opening System Settings from the HOME Menu and selecting Data Management.

Please take care not to delete the update data, which can be viewed by opening System Settings → Data Management → Nintendo 3DS → Add-on Content.

If you didn’t accept the terms of the Nintendo 3DS Service User Agreement and Privacy Policy when you performed the initial setup of your Nintendo 3DS system, you will not be able to connect to the internet and download the update data. Please view the Nintendo 3DS Service User Agreement and Privacy Policy by selecting System Settings → Internet Settings → Other Information → User Agreement.
