5 Tips To Triumph In Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp

Reimagined, rebuilt and redeployed, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is out now on Nintendo Switch! If you’re a new recruit (or a rusty veteran) who’s struggling on the battlefield, don’t sweat it – we’ve got a bunch of handy tips to help strengthen your strategies! Take a look through the following intel and go give it to ‘em!

    1. Use bridges to your advantage

If you find yourself on the defensive, bridges can help manage incoming attacks. Positioning a strong unit such as a Med. Tank at the entrance to a bridge blocks off the enemy advance. Moving a ranged unit like Rockets or Artillery behind your lead unit means you can pick off enemies one by one as they try and cross too.

    2. Don't overlook your APCs

Having an Armoured Personnel Carrier unit or two around can be a real lifesaver! Ferrying ground troops across the battlefield as quickly as possible can help you secure key buildings before the enemy does, but APCs can also refuel and rearm your units! Whether it’s ensuring your tanks can push through all the way to the enemy HQ, or restocking your Rockets for sustained ranged attacks, it’s as easy as APC.

    3. Retreat to safety

Capturing buildings is more than just a way to make money you know. Damaged units that are positioned on a city will regenerate health at a rate of two points a turn. They’ll also have a boost in defence whilst stationed there. The same goes for Airports, Seaports and Bases too! If you’ve taken damage it can be handy to retreat to safety and recover your strength before launching a counter-attack.

    4. Don't fear the fog

When your view’s obscured by the fog of war, there are a couple of tricks you can use to help pinpoint enemies. If you find yourself being targeted by ranged units, keep an eye on the background of the battle animation. Trees in the background mean you should check the woods, whilst built-up areas suggest they’re positioned on a building. It pays to be observant!

Don’t just rely on your eyes though, your ears can help too! Each unit has a distinctive sound when they’re moving around. Learn to recognise them and you’ll know whether that’s a formidable enemy Neotank or a just a lowly Recon unit scurrying around in the darkness. Listen closely and you might even be able to pinpoint their location!

    5. Join forces!

Damaged units will deal less damage themselves, but there’s a cunning way around this. You can combine two damaged units into one, merging their health in the process. More health means more firepower – success! This replenishes ammo too, so if you’re running low on both health and ammo, it’s definitely a strategy worth considering.

With these tips you should be leading the Orange Star army to victory in no time at all! Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is out now on Nintendo Switch.
