  • Update from the Squid Research Lab: Free new stages added to Splatoon 2

    28/08/2017

The ink-tastic Splatoon 2 has received several updates since it arrived on Nintendo Switch last month, adding new content to keep the game feeling fresh. Just last week, our Squid Research team were stunned by the arrival of not one, but TWO brand new stages!

The first – Manta Maria – was added to the Turf War and Ranked Battle rotation on Saturday. The four-on-four battles take place on a sailing boat moored at a harbour, and the key to victory is to control the area surrounded by three huge masts. Take a look at the stage in action below, courtesy of the European Squid Researchers at gamescom 2017.

That’s not all, though! Salmon Run volunteers have been getting to grips with a new stage for almost a week now. Lost Outpost was added during gamescom 2017, and through our diligent research we’ve learned that this area used to have inhabitants, but was abandoned due to the elevation of the sea level. It’s turned out to be an ideal spot for Salmon Run, though! Walls block your view so cooperating with teammates by sending out signals to each other is more important on this stage. What’s more, a new special weapon called Bubble Blower is on the way. It fires up to three big bubbles and if you continue shooting ink of your team’s colour onto them, the bubbles explode, engulfing your opponents in the explosions. However, the bubbles will vanish if your opponent team’s ink keeps hitting them. You can use this to protect yourself from your opponent’s attacks though, so it’s not all bad. This new special weapon will be available as part of the Forge Splattershot Pro set on September 2nd.
