  • Get ready for Wii U launch with our information guide

    28/11/2012

Wii U launches in South Africa on 30th November, and to ensure you have everything you need to start enjoying your new console right away, Nintendo is releasing important information about system updates, system transfers, storage, and more.

To add Miiverse and other features to Wii U, simply connect your Wii U console to the Internet and perform a system update. Due to the amount of new features and applications included, the system update may take an extended amount of time when performed during the initial setup (for some users it could take an hour or more to download and install). The length of time it takes to perform a system update varies depending on the speed of the Internet connection used. Also, in the period following launch, be aware that increased traffic to Nintendo's servers could extend the download time.

Please be patient, and do not power off your console during this time or remove the power cord. Find out about Wii U system updates and Getting your Wii U console online in our Support section.

In order to transfer save data from a Wii console to Wii U, you will need both consoles, an SD Card with at least 512 MB of free space, and Internet access. Visit our Support section to find out How to transfer from Wii to Wii U.

Both the Wii U Basic Pack and Wii U Premium Pack include internal flash memory, and users can expand either console's available memory by connecting external USB storage media, sold separately. Wii U supports USB hard disk drives of up to 2 TB in size, granting users plenty of space. Our Support section contains information about Compatible USB storage devices.

Wii U also offers robust Parental Control options that allow console owners to easily manage the content users are able to access. Different restrictions can be set for individual users, allowing total control over which content can be viewed, and by whom. Learn more about Parental Controls in our Support section.
