Hydroventure™

System: Wii Release date: 24/12/2010

It has seemingly magical properties - as a solid, liquid or gas - yet we take it for granted every day. It's about time for humble H2O, otherwise known as water, to break into the limelight!

When the pages of a very special book called the Aquaticus are blighted by an evil substance known as “the influence”, something has to be done. With the powers of the Aquaticus dwindling and the pungent pollution of the influence spreading, it’s up to you to enter this enchanted story and save the day. To do so, you’ll have to harness the unique properties of water and seek out the precious Rainbow Drops that will finally wash away the corrupting influence.

With intuitive movements of the Wii Remote, you’ll direct water in its various forms into the places it is needed most – solving puzzles along the way and eradicating the influence as the malicious muck takes on the form of crawling blobs, flapping gobs of ink and more. Thankfully, the water under your control is every bit as adaptable your enemy and can be turned from flowing water to floating steam and solid ice. Only by using all of these powerful properties will you be able to tackle the obstacles and enemies in your path - sticking to surfaces in ice form, floating to high areas as steam then turning from a cloud back into pure water at the right moment.

Whether water, steam or ice, the H20 under your control can be directed as you angle the Wii Remote to “tip” the pages of the Aquaticus and shake it to make the water jump over obstacles in your path. As you go you’ll also unlock six special abilities. For example, when under attack, clouds can be charged up to launch a lightning bolt that will destroy enemies and interact with electrical equipment in the levels. Unlock all the abilities on offer to ensure your quest flows as smoothly as possible!

Beware though, as the finite amount of water acts as it would in real life and can be split, trapped or even evaporate. If the water reserves get low, players can refill their supplies by collecting water found throughout levels. Water will, however, be lost if it is hit by enemy attacks, and if the water touches arid or hot surfaces, such as sand or lava, things might get steamy and it could be game over.

Your journey will take in all sorts of colourful locales in which your chief aim is to gather the 80+ Rainbow Drops which will restore colour to the Aquaticus. Comic book-style presentation brings the world to life as you enter the book’s four uniquely challenging chapters: mountain, city, temple and seaside. Each environment is chock full of brain-busting obstacles, which means you might want to take advantage of the detailed tutorials on offer to refine your water-wielding skills.

Finally, unlock extra challenges by collecting puzzle pieces, then enter Playrooms where you can test your techniques further by attempting to set Long Jump records or climb the tricky Trouble Tower.

Whatever challenge you’re tackling, Hydroventure is unique, diverse and refreshing - just like water itself!

  • Take control of a body of water inside a magical book called the Aquaticus, where an evil force is causing chaos.
  • Transform between water, ice and steam to fight enemies, solve puzzles and collect the Rainbow Drops scattered across the book's pages.
  • Instead of moving the water directly, simply tilt the book with the Wii Remote and slosh your way through the labyrinthine levels - but watch out for hazards such as deadly sandpits or lava lakes.
  • You can also collect puzzle pieces to unlock Playrooms and test your abilities. Go for the record in the Long Jump or see how far you can climb Trouble Tower!
