The Sims Bustin' Out

System: Nintendo GameCube Release date: 12/12/2003

You've cared for them, nurtured them and watch them grow. But now it's time for them to leave home. Those little computer people, The Sims, are no longer housebound. In The Sims Bustin' Out, they're in the big wide world, where truly anything is possible.

Now you can give your Sim a job, a car, a house and a social life, and see where your virtual life leads you. But before you do anything, you need to create the character that will be your digital doppelganger in the Sims world. You can select from thousands of combinations of eyes, noses, hair colour, clothes and accessories. Once you're happy with their look, you must decide what personality you want your Sim to have.

And choose carefully, because it will dictate what job they will be best at. The aim of the game is to become a success in your chosen career. So a weedy guy with glasses is better off at becoming a mad scientist than an athlete. If you're not sure what kind of Sim you want, then simply let the heavens decide. By selecting a star sign, the computer automatically chooses their personality based on their astrological destiny.

The road to riches and fame (or a white coat and bubbling beakers) is paved with challenges. The game has been designed with consoles in mind, therefore it has a 'mission'-style structure. Completing missions successfully means more money, and puts you one step closer on the road to success. But money isn't everything. You'll need to travel around (using vehicles like scooters or, when you can afford it, a limousine) and meet people to expand your experience. Learn to mix drinks in a nightclub, or play a few rounds of air hockey to build up your reflexes. The more skills you learn, the better your chances at achieving that dream career.

If you've never played a Sims game before, then Bustin' Out is the perfect introduction. The controls and graphics have been designed with a console in mind, rather than PC. Also, you can save your Sim to a Memory Card and play it on a friend's GameCube. You can either work together with your friend to achieve superstar status or challenge them to a race to be the best. Plus, The Sims' Bustin' Out features a link to the Game Boy Advance version. By linking the two games, using the Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Advance cable, you can unlock a hidden level for the GBA version, and a game cabinet in the GCN version. This game cabinet will give your Sims access to minigames that you can play on Game Boy Advance. You can also download your Sim character from the Nintendo GameCube version to the Game Boy Advance game, and take them on the road!
