Gameplay

In Monster Hunter, you can only rely on three things: your equipment, your teammates and your skill. There are no shortcuts to becoming a legendary hunter, but those who answer the call can expect hundreds of hours of rewarding adventure. Create your own warrior and lead him or her on an unbelievable journey.

Quest for glory

Make your name by completing hundreds of quests issued by the Guild in Moga Village. Here you can learn the ropes, discover which of the many available weapon types suits you best, and start to gather the resources you’ll need to succeed.

Battles in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate are intense and fast-paced, so you’ll need to keep your wits about you when facing your prey. The optional new Target Camera feature makes it easier to focus quickly on nearby monsters with a simple press of a button.

Craft thousands of new equipment pieces and items, take on dozens of new monsters and expand your game even further with regular free quests to download.

To arms!

Each of the 12 weapon types at your disposal – Hammer, Dual Blades, Lance, Gunlance, Long Sword, Great Sword, Heavy Bowgun, Light Bowgun, Hunting Horn, Bow, Switch Axe, and Sword and Shield – has its own advantages and disadvantages. The Hammer is slow but devastatingly powerful, while Dual Blades are ideal for nimble hunters who prefer fast, fluid attacks. You can change your equipment before setting out, so be sure to arm yourself to suit the quest at hand.

But it takes more than just strong equipment to succeed – you must study each monster, learn its weaknesses and predict its attacks. Throw projectiles to stun and blind the beast, then lure it into a trap using meat as bait and strike while it’s most vulnerable. But be warned: these tactics won’t work on every monster, so you’ll need a keen eye and sharp wits to figure out how best to take down each beast that stands in your way.

A good offence is one thing, but you’ll need robust armour to hold your own against these brutal behemoths. Mix and match gauntlets, chest pieces, helms and more to create your ideal armour set, but be aware each combination has its own strengths and weaknesses. A complete set of matching armour often bestows you with new skills and attribute boosts, and crafted jewels can be added as decorations to make these effects even more potent. Fashion everything you need to become the most feared hunter there is.

Hunt in packs

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate boasts a lengthy and gripping single-player mode, but joining forces with a few friends opens up an entirely new level of excitement. Head over to the Multiplayer section to find out more, and find out about Multiplayer in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on Wii U.

Multiplayer

You’ve forged a powerful weapon and clad yourself in resilient armour, but your best chance of Monster Hunter mastery lies with your allies.

Get together!

Team up with your friends to tackle stacks of exhilarating quests together in Local Play. Create a hunting party of up to four players and combine your abilities in incredible action-packed battles.

Do battle your way: lead the attack as a powerful warrior armed with a fierce blade, strike from a distance with a ranged weapon, or heal and support your fellow hunters with attribute boosts.

But be warned: these fierce monsters become even more formidable when outnumbered, so you’ll need to work together as a team if you wish to claim the spoils.
