Puzzle & Dragons Z

Story

Puzzle & Dragons Z takes place in the land of Dracomacia, where you are a new Dragon Tamer, one of only a handful of people able to control monsters using Orb energy. After you’re recruited into the Rangers, an organisation that researches dragons, there’s barely pause for breath, as an evil force called Paradox takes control of the five Skydragons, breaking Dracomacia apart! Save the Skydragons; save the world!

Match-three gameplay

Set off on adventure and search deep, dark dungeons, picking your route at branching paths. You’ll also encounter enemies aplenty, battling them with your own team of six monsters by matching three or more elemental Orbs of the same type; move Orbs around the screen freely within the time limit to make the most of each move.

Orbs & Attributes

There are five types of elemental Orbs, each with a different attribute: Fire, Wood, Water, Dark and Light. Strategy is the key – Fire beats Wood, Wood beats Water, Water beats Fire, while Dark and Light cancel each other out, letting you deal greater damage or defend against strong attacks. As remaining elemental Orbs drop into new spaces, you can trigger chain-attack Combos that increase your hit power!

Watch out for Heart Orbs, which replenish health, and shiny Z-Orbs, which deal triple damage once cleared. You’ll need great command over all manner of Orbs if you hope to defeat the boss lurking at the end of each dungeon!

Building your team

In Puzzle & Dragons Z there are over 250 types of enemy to recruit from, including dragons, knights and even demons. Each has different statistics, such as health, attack power and recovery ability, as well as one of various battle Skills, like special moves, defence boosts, and status changes. You can level your monsters up through experience points earned in battle, and also use Chips dropped by enemies to evolve your monsters, making them more powerful. Keep your eyes open for enemy eggs after skirmishes, as you can hatch them into new monsters, too.

Team leaders and Helpers

Part of the strategy of Puzzle & Dragons is in choosing the right team for the challenge at hand! When you're putting your team together, make sure you look carefully at the Skills and abilities of your monsters – especially their 'Leader Skills'. In each team you'll need to assign a team leader and a Helper, and the Leader Skills of these particular monsters could make or break your strategy! Leader Skills can range from granting attack bonuses for a certain attribute, or increasing your attack multiplier once you've reached a certain Combo number – powerful stuff!

Connect and Unlock

In this title you can exchange your Tamer Card with others via StreetPass or local wireless. This lets you use another player’s team leader as a Helper in your game. Puzzle & Dragons Z also features stacks of extra content, including downloadable relics to open special dungeons, where rare monsters reside, and codes to earn special Helpers!

Mario Worlds

Across eight Mushroom Kingdom worlds, each with various courses, you’ll experience colourful, match-three fun, as you encounter Yoshi, Toad and other favourites. If you're a Mario fan you're sure to feel right at home, making your way through the courses of each world before finally getting to the castle at the end. Along the way you'll collect tons of useful items, head into Toad Houses, and more! Just like in classic Mario titles, there are alternative routes through the worlds to discover – but you'll need to master those strange Orbs if you plan on finding them all!

Match-three Battles

Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition has the same match-three gameplay heart as Puzzle & Dragons Z. You'll create a team of six allies, then deal damage to your foes in puzzle battles by matching three or more Orbs of the same type on the Touch Screen.

Once you touch an Orb, and start moving it around the screen, you've only got a certain amount of time before your move ends – create as many matches as you can, and clear as many Orbs as possible from the screen! Any spaces left by your marvellous matches will be quickly filled by Orbs that fall down from the top of the screen, which can trigger Combos and increase the power of your attacks!

Building your team

If you're victorious in battle, your foe might drop a helpful item, or even a ? Block containing a creature who'll join you on your quest. Once this new ally is in your roster, you can add them to your team whenever you like. There are over 80 familiar faces from the Mushroom Kingdom to recruit, including Goombas, Toads, Cheep Cheeps and more. If you've ever wanted a Koopa troop of your own, now's the time!
